About the project

The project required a reliable and cost-effective power solution to support and stabilize the local electricity grid in Plymouth, UK. It was also important to ensure high efficiency, low emissions, and compliance with environmental and noise requirements, while operating within a defined ambient temperature range.

Two containerized power modules were delivered for the power plant. One module is equipped with a Jenbacher J620 engine (3 MW), and the other with an MTU V20 4000 L63 engine (2 MW). Both engines are fully overhauled, offering a dependable and cost-efficient alternative to new units.

The modules run on natural gas, enabling efficient power generation with reduced emissions and lower operating costs. Designed as plug-and-play systems, they are housed in transportable steel containers with integrated exhaust and cooling systems.

We designed, delivered, and commissioned both power modules, and continue to provide technical support, maintenance, and servicing. Each container is divided into a machine room for the genset and auxiliaries, and a control room for safety and control systems.

The overall dimensions of the installed system are 17,230 × 5,225 × 6,602 mm, with the height defined by the exhaust system. The modules are engineered to operate in ambient temperatures from -10°C to +30°C and meet a noise level requirement of 55 dB(A) at 10 meters.

The Layout

External

Exhaust Gas Silencer

A free-standing silencer with integrated catalytic converter elements. The engine’s frequency band, the required target levels, and the possible pressure drop are considered to reduce sound emissions.

Dry Cooler

Customized, horizontal design flat coolers to meet the engine requirements, ambient temperature, and noise restrictions. As for the power plant specification, the dry coolers are placed on the ground beside the containers.

Access ladder to roof and railing

Steel ladder and railings to provide access and safety during maintenance work and checkups of auxiliary equipment.

Gas connection flance

Connection point to the plant’s gas line.
